The Good Shop is a pioneering second-hand retail enterprise in Mauritius. Starting with one retail store as a pilot concept, we have grown into a group of stores that have a positive impact on the environment, employment and education. We do this by creating meaningful employment, including for people going through difficulty, all while helping reduce waste and pollution through the sale of second-hand and upcycled goods. On a daily basis we accept donations of everything from books to furniture to household items and clothing. We sort through these items to ensure they get the best extension of life possible. Then we sell them at affordable prices. Items which are not appropriate for sale are upcycled if possible. We distribute donated goods in a way that gives dignity and gets to the people who actually want and need them. 50% of our items are sorted and donated to NGO in order to directly support their missions or beneficiaries. Our vision and mission is to enhance the dignity and quality of life of disenfranchised individuals and families in Mauritius by strengthening communities and the environment, by eliminating barriers to opportunity and helping people in need reach their full potential through learning and the power of work. We do this by bringing creative solutions to various societal issues, including vulnerable children and education; employment with dignity; environmental degradation; and ethical leadership. We are convinced that a financially sustainable social enterprise can be a literal one-stop shop of a solution.
