Whether you are a seasoned networker, or learning the ropes, here are some of my top tips to help you to get the most out of your networking events.
While we go to networking events armed with loads of business cards (or we should do, anyway), the objective is NOT to hand them out like they are going out of fashion. Rather focus on COLLECTING cards. When you have another person’s card, you have shown an interest in THEM. They have then given you their contact details which opens the communication channel between you, allowing you to connect with them and find out more about what they do and how you can assist them. The opportunity WILL arise for you to tell them about what you do. (I will go into more detail at a later stage about what to do with all the cards you collect, for now, please remember this; NEVER EVER SELL to the people who you have met as this will turn them right off your company.)
My top tip is to be sure to collect more business cards than you give out, accept them with gratitude and guard them as precious…..they are!
